'The Quiet'
Premieres in Toronto
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com)- With David Cronenberg and Atom Egoyan, two of Canada's highest profile international filmmakers, ready with new offerings, the opening slot at the Toronto International Film Festival was thought to be a two-horse race. Instead, Indian-born/Canada-based helmer Deepa Mehta has grabbed the coveted position with her latest, the already controversial "Water." Toronto will get the world premiere of Anand Tucker's "Shopgirl," based on Steve Martin's book and starring the comic, as well as Claire Danes and Jason Schwartzman. Other high profile world premieres are Paul Mayeda Berges's "Mistress of Spices," with Aishwarya Rai and Dylan McDermott, and "Thank You for Smoking," a comedy featuring Robert Duvall, Katie Holmes and Aaron Eckhart. Those three will appear in the Special Presentations showcase, while Jamie Babbit's "The Quiet," starring Elisha Cuthbert, will get its world premiere in the Visions program. |
